Job Summary:

This position is responsible for monitoring various functions in the Customs Brokerage department to maintain operational efficiencies, Customs compliance and exceptional customer service levels. It includes overseeing the entry process and oversight of team members in the Customs brokerage department as well as communication with customers as needed for information, service and compliance.  We are seeking a motivated individual with supervisory or leadership experience or a strong desire to advance into a supervisory/management role. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the team’s tasks, tracking that KPI’s are met and addressing any inconsistencies
  • Ensuring adequate coverage of workloads and equal distribution of accounts and workloads
  • Ensure that staff operations are complete within established timeframes, Customs, and all relevant regulatory bodies’ rules & regulations.
  • Ensure the team adheres to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and processes to deliver compliant, efficient, and consistent service.
  • Assist the team as needed with specific tasks such as finalizing and reviewing entries, customer invoicing, classification, and credit controls. Work to train staff to be able to answer questions independently
  • Offer guidance to both internal and external stakeholders, knowing when to engage the Compliance Team for additional support.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by addressing customers’ needs, assisting staff to resolve service issues, and ensuring timely shipment processing, involving and communicating with management as needed based on risk assessment
  • Take responsibility for continuous coaching and guidance to ensure the team achieves key performance indicators (KPIs). Document inconsistencies, challenges with team members, with the assistance of HR
  • Track team performance for understanding & ability to perform job functions with minimal errors and with on-time performance
  • Any Candidates without a broker’s license will be supported and encouraged by the company to prepare for the exam. The level of supervision of staff in this role and salary compensation will be adjusted based on whether the individual holds a brokers’ license. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong HTS Classification Skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve complex problems, and make critical decisions with limited information.

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years minimum of related experience in Customs brokerage or freight forwarding
  • Customs Broker License preferred but will consider someone preparing for test and with strong industry knowledge.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but will consider people with strong industry experience.
  • CargoWise Software experience a bonus
