Job Summary
The Director of Customs Brokerage Compliance is a newly created leadership role designed to support customer compliance through consulting and education while ensuring internal processes align with evolving regulatory requirements.
This role will:
Work closely with the leadership team across Customs Brokerage, Logistics, and Export divisions.
Lead a small team of seasoned Licensed Customs Brokers (LCBs).
Provide support to the entry writing team with training, auditing, and documentation development.
Ensure adherence to U.S. Customs regulations, FMC requirements, and high customer service standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee a small team of LCBs providing post-entry, classification, and compliance support.
Monitor compliance team KPIs and help resolve process bottlenecks.
Collaborate with leadership to determine training needs and develop training materials.
Co-develop entry audit processes and risk assessments.
Ensure product database updates to reflect accurate customer classification data.
Address internal compliance concerns.
Maintain up-to-date training materials aligned with CBP and PGA guidelines.
Support the development of SOPs and KPIs for the brokerage team.
Create reference materials, cheat sheets, and compliance tools.
Oversee internal audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Provide guidance on HTS classification and documentation standards.
Participate in customer visits and compliance discussions.
Ensure FMC rate filing and contract management processes are compliant and current.
Review shipping documents for regulatory accuracy.
Oversee proper recordkeeping in line with federal regulations.
Conduct internal classification and compliance audits.
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of Customs Brokerage operations, especially entry writing.
Proficiency in HTS classification.
Skilled in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Excellent written and verbal communication.
High attention to detail.
Critical thinking and problem-solving under limited information.
Strategic, proactive compliance mindset.
Comfortable in a dynamic, evolving work environment.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Education & Experience
Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) required.
5+ years of experience in customs brokerage.
In-depth knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and HTS classification.
Familiarity with FMC regulations.
Leadership experience or readiness to manage a small team.
Experience with CargoWise is a plus.
