Job Summary

The Director of Customs Brokerage Compliance is a newly created leadership role to address the increased demands to support our customer compliance needs through consulting and education and to ensure our internal processes and procedures are keeping pace with the industry-related regulatory requirements. This role will work closely with the leadership team in Customs Brokerage, Logistics and Export divisions. The position will lead a small team of seasoned Licensed Customs Brokers (LCBs) and work closely with the brokerage leadership team to ensure adherence to U.S. Customs regulations, FMC requirements, and customer service standards. The position will provide key support to the brokerage team of entry writers to assist with training, training material, audit processes, and documentation development to promote operational excellence and compliance.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee a small team of LCB’s who manage transactional support for the Customs brokerage team: post entry work, classification and compliance support functions for the staff of entry writers.
  • Tracking the challenges and KPI’s for the compliance team and helping work to ensure proper coverage while addressing bottlenecks.
  • Work closely with the Brokerage Operations Managers and VP of Customs brokerage to determine needed training and help create needed training material for best practices
  • Collaborate with VP and Manager on developing entry audit process and assessing risk, corrective measures and reporting.
  • Work with brokerage team to ensure proper and timely updates to product database to capture customer classification data.
  • Help address any internal compliance concerns with staff.
  • Keep entry training material current with CBP entry guidelines and PGA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with brokerage leadership to develop and maintain SOPs and KPI’s for the brokerage team.
  • Support training initiatives by creating reference materials, cheat sheets, and compliance tools.
  • Oversee internal audit processes to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide guidance on classification, entry accuracy, and documentation standards.
  • Assist with customer visits and compliance-related discussions.
  • Review and maintain compliance of shipping documents, including bills of lading.
  • Oversee recordkeeping practices to meet regulatory standards.
  • Conduct internal audits of classification databases and customer-specific compliance projects.
  • Ensure FMC processes are following FMC requirements and regulations including FMC rate filing and contract management
  • Support internal and external audits, including CBP Focused Assessments and CTPAT validations
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate updates to internal teams and clients.


Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve complex problems, and make critical decisions with limited information.
  • Strategic thinking with a proactive approach to compliance.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving responsibilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.


Education & Experience

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) required.
  • 5+ years of experience in customs brokerage
  • Strong knowledge of S. Customs regulations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HTS classification in all commodities
  • Understanding of FMC and FMC regulations
  • Proven leadership experience or readiness to manage a small team.
  • Experience with CargoWise is a plus.
