Link for Wisconsin State Highway closures
The UP Railroad has placed an embargo on Chicago traffic
going to or coming from Southern California.
A series of storms has caused significant
damage to the Union Pacific rail network, which has made it necessary to
issue embargoes for traffic moving across certain parts of the east-west
main line across Iowa.
At this time, the most significant impact
of the flooding on the Union Pacific system is in the state of Iowa where
54 of the 99 counties have been declared disaster areas.
Union Pacific operations personnel are
closely monitoring other areas throughout the Midwest for possible
flooding.

application process to offer
limited operations, where possible, for shipments within the embargo area.

reviewed and a response will be provided to customers by 3:00 p.m. CDT. If
a permit is granted, customers will be able to waybill a shipment
immediately with their permit number on the waybill. Applications received

day.
Please review the

additional information on how to waybill shipments after a permit number
is granted.

Appointments for delivering loaded containers
for export to the terminal are occurring more frequently. A growing
number of steamship lines have begun to enforce a delivery window. That
you may not deliver the loaded container before a certain date – of course

CBP and ICE Donate Thousands of Shoes
to Charity
Washington
— U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement donated 10,000 pairs of shoes to Samaritan’s Feet, a
non-profit charity based in Charlotte, NC. Samaritan’s Feet is a charity
that seeks to cover the feet of 10 million impoverished people around the
world in 10 years.
CBP
officers and Import Specialists seized the shoes for violations of
intellectual property rights laws. The holder of the legitimate trademark
has agreed to allow the government to make this donation rather than
destroying the shoes.
"We are
very pleased that the efforts of CBP and ICE officers and agents have not
only stopped counterfeit goods from being distributed in the United States
illegally, but have made it possible for the people served by Samaritan’s
Feet to benefit," said W. Ralph Basham, Commissioner, U.S. Customs and
Border Protection.
The top
commodity seized in FY 2007 was footwear with a domestic value of $77.7
million, which accounted for 40 percent of the entire value of goods
seized.
CBP and ICE
are dedicated to the enforcement of intellectual property rights laws to
protect American businesses and consumers from potentially unsafe and
illegitimate goods. In FY 2007, CBP made more than 13,600 seizures worth
approximately $200 million in domestic value, exceeding the value of last
year’s by 27 percent.
