WTO won't discuss textile quotas, for now

The World Trade Organization has rejected a call by certain WTO member states, for a special emergency session to discuss the end of textile quotas from the start of next year. The textile industry has supported an effort to seek a three-year delay for the end of quotas. The WTO director general, Supachai Panitchpakdi determined that at this time, there did not exist the required consensus for such action.

The quota issue was put off until Oct. 1 at an already scheduled meeting of the Council for Trading Goods, a WTO group that deals with quota issues.
