Nine Eastern European countries removed from the GSP

The US has removed nine Eastern European countries from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program. The action came on May 1 when the 10 countries officially joined the European Union. The de-listed countries include: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Cyprus also joined the EU on May 1 but the US had not previously designated it as a GSP-eligible country. The change in GSP status reportedly affects millions of dollars of trade in agricultural and manufactured goods.
