Storage Policy and Change to “Free Time Expires” on documents

Intermodal Bulletin – 2005-052    Effective Date: June 1, 2005

STORAGE POLICY CHANGES – REMINDER:

This bulletin serves as a reminder to our customers of the June 1 changes to the storage policy previously announced in Intermodal Bulletin 2005-024.

·        Notify Time – The notification clock for determining day of notification will change from our current 12:01 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When notification is made before 5 p.m., the day of notification is that (same) day
When notification is made at 5 p.m. or after, the day of notification is the following day

·        Storage Clock – There will be no change to the time we begin calculating storage.  This means free time will begin at 12:01 a.m. the day following the day of notification.

·        In-Bond – Free time allowed for U.S. Customs in-bond shipments will be reduced from 72 hours to 48 hours.  All storage free time will now be day of notify plus 48 hours.

·        Holidays - Good Friday, Day after Thanksgiving, and Presidents Day are no longer considered holidays and become chargeable days

·        Weekends - Saturdays will now be included in the computation of free time and will be chargeable.  Sundays and holidays will remain exempt as long as free time has not expired.  If the day prior to a Sunday or holiday is the last free day, then charges will begin on that Sunday or holiday.

·        Charges - After free time expires the following storage charges apply:

Day 1-5  $100 per day             Day 6-10    $150 per day            Day 11+    $300 per day

These updates can be found in the Master Intermodal Transportation Agreement (M.I.T.A.) in Section 8, items 8.1, 8.3 & 8.4.

REVISED STORAGE CHARTS:

Attached are two new storage charts for customers to use as a tool for storage calculations.

Chart one illustrates the storage calendar if a container is notified prior to 5:00 p.m.
Chart two illustrates the storage calendar if a container is notified at 5:00 p.m. or after.

These charts are posted on our website at:  www.uprr.com/customers/intermodal/feature/secure/mystorage.shtml

CHANGE TO “FREE TIME EXPIRES”

In order to simplify the communication of when free time expires, we are making a change to the wording associated with the expiration of free time on traces, van notifications, projected storage and any other documentation referencing this item.  This change will have no impact on how storage charges are calculated.

Example:          Currently -                    “Free Time Expires @ 5/16-00:01
                                    Effective June 1 -          “Storage Charges Begin @ 5/16-00:01

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please notify your Union Pacific Business Manager or Regional Sales Manager.
